Hello! What’s your background, and what inspired you to create MicroHiring?
I worked as a software developer in the Geo-information technology field and as IT project manager at a famous German startup. During that time, I worked with quality freelancers and agencies. I really enjoyed working with them. They were very talented and flexible people.
So I tried to understand their world. I asked them what were the most common problems and, among others, they all said competition on price and clients that prefer quantity over quality. This insight led to the idea of creating MicroHiring, aiming to connect high-quality freelancers with clients who value expertise and skill.
What problem were you aiming to solve in the market?
There are many quality freelancers and small agencies that have difficulties finding clients online and many clients that seek highly skilled service providers, looking for quality. Unfortunately, there are many service providers with questionable quality in the market. It is inexpensive to hire them but good clients look for good service providers. On MicroHiring, clients that care about quality find highly skilled service providers.
Can you describe the typical process a client goes through when using MicroHiring.co to find a service provider?
Clients navigate MicroHiring.co and select the service that they need. There are more than 30 services freelancers offer on MicroHiring. A list of service providers offering the service is shown. The clients contact them directly on X or Linkedin.
How do you ensure that the agencies and freelancers listed on MicroHiring.co are truly vetted for quality and reliability?
I ask them to send me some material and links. I use the following criteria:
- Excellent portfolio.
- Good online presence.
- Only freelancers or small agencies.
- Effort in the application.
- The right services (some are not accepted).
What specific criteria do you use to evaluate an agency or freelancer’s portfolio?
Applicants send me their GitHub accounts and their portfolio. I evaluate them according to the number of projects on GitHub and the quality of the UI of the project in the portfolio.
Nevertheless, a very important criteria is the good online presence. This shows if they understand the business and are able to communicate with clients.
What types of services are typically not accepted on MicroHiring.co, and why are they excluded?
We do not accept any service that does not regard the product of a client directly. For example, we do not accept tax consultants, consultants for trading in the stock market, etc.
But we do accept software development, marketing, copywriting, design.
What are the metrics or key performance indicators (KPIs) you track to assess the success and growth of MicroHiring.co?
Since MicroHiring is a marketplace where sellers (service providers) meet buyers (clients), I need two different marketing strategies. Right one, I am focusing on getting service providers on the platform. This is the main KPI. In a couple of weeks, I will start marketing for clients. For that, the most important KPIs will be the number of users in the platforms and number of hirings.
Are there any plans to monetize MicroHiring.co in the future beyond the current model of not charging a fee to clients or service providers?
In a marketplace, you can monetize through the buyer, through the seller, or through both. I have three ideas on how to monetize MicroHiring. The choice relies on how MicroHiring will change and how much client traffic it will have.
